JordanCon Weapons Peace Binding Procedure

This procedure describes the implementation of the JordanCon Weapons Policy.

To ensure the safety of all attendees, every weapon-like prop must be inspected and approved by the Safety Team before entering the JordanCon convention space. Follow the steps below without exception:

1. Cover All Points and Edges

Before presenting a prop for inspection:

  • Ensure all points or tips are covered.
  • Ensure any exposed edges are padded or otherwise protected.
  • Items that cannot be safely covered will not be approved for convention use.

Covering the weapon is required for peace-binding.

2. Report for Inspection Immediately

  • When you arrive at the convention for the first time with any weapon-like prop, go directly to the designated Inspection Area before approaching any other convention space.  The designated Inspection Area will be shared on our website and across communications prior to the start of the event.  There will also be signs indicating where the Inspection Area is located.

3. Present All Weapon-Like Props

The Safety Team will inspect every item that fits any of the following criteria:

  • Items shaped like weapons.
  • Items with points or edges, even if they are dull.
  • Items that could be mistaken for functional weapons.

Prohibited items – These will not be allowed in convention space under any circumstances:

  • Sharp-edged props.
  • Props capable of firing projectiles, bolts, darts, or any other ammunition.
  • Live weapons of any kind.

If a live weapon is discovered, the attendee will be instructed to secure it immediately in a private vehicle or other privately-owned space. Live weapons are not permitted anywhere inside the Crowne Plaza Ravinia.

4. Peace-Bind the Prop

  • To peace-bind a weapon means to physically secure it so it cannot be drawn or used.

  • You may peace-bind your own prop before arriving at the Inspection Area.
  • Regardless of who peace-binds the item, the Safety Team will review the binding for adequacy.
  • If the prop is not properly peace-bound at the time of inspection, the Safety Team will peace-bind it at time of inspection.

5. Receive the Official Inspection Indicator

  • Once a prop passes inspection, the Safety Team will attach an official inspection indicator.
  • This indicator must remain visible at all times while you are in convention space.
  • Removal, tampering, or loss of this indicator invalidates the inspection and puts the owner at risk of voiding their JordanCon membership and attendance.

6. Maintain Compliance at All Times

  • Badge-check, security points, staff members of the Safety Team, and Operations Officers may verify that every weapon-like prop displays a valid inspection indicator at any time.
  • If the indicator is missing, the attendee will be directed immediately to the Inspection Area or to the nearest Safety Team member.
  • You may not proceed until the prop is re-inspected and re-tagged.

7. Submit to Re-Inspection if Required

  • If the Safety Team has reason to believe a prop’s condition has changed (e.g., was brandished unsafely or appears altered), they will conduct a polite but mandatory re-inspection.
  • Re-inspection events will be documented to monitor repeat violations.
