Anti-Harassment

JordanCon promotes a safe and worry-free environment for all participants. We do not condone harassment or discrimination based on gender (to include gender identity), sexual orientation, race, religion, disabilities, or another protected status. If you have been harassed, or witness harassment at JordanCon, we ask you to report it to the convention staff immediately.

JordanCon will take whatever action deemed necessary, including but not limited to, verbal warnings, removal from convention activities, banishment from JordanCon, or reporting to local law enforcement. JordanCon will address issues of harassment or discrimination with attendees, guests, vendors, or any other party associated with JordanCon. The confidentiality of reporters will be maintained, except where required by law.

JordanCon staff are available for assistance and can be identified by badge ribbons at the convention and are listed by name on the convention website and in the program. General concerns can be sent to jordancon@jordancon.org. We thank everyone in advance for ensuring that JordanCon remains a fun and welcoming place for all fans.

Statement of Diversity and Inclusion

Like the science fiction and fantasy works that inspire our members each year, JordanCon is a proud champion of diversity and equality. JordanCon is, first and foremost, a family. Like most families, we have our differences. And we believe those differences are what make us stronger. We are dedicated to providing an inclusive experience and community to all of our members. That includes fostering diversity in our programming and vendor hall, as well as creating a safe space for attendees online and in person.

We do not tolerate racist, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory behavior. JordanCon stands in solidarity with people of all nationalities, backgrounds and sexual orientations, and denounces bigotry of all kinds.

The science fiction and fantasy genres are home to an ever-expanding collection of books, games, movies, lore, and fandoms, where the only limit is our imaginations. Diversity is our heritage and our future. Please direct questions to JordanCon@JordanCon.org.

Weapons

For information regarding how this policy is implemented, please see JordanCon Weapons Peace Binding Procedure.
Prohibited Items (Live Weapons)

  • Live Weapons are Strictly Prohibited: JordanCon and the Crowne Plaza Ravinia hotel prohibit all live weapons on convention and hotel grounds.
  • A live weapon is defined as anything that can cut, slice, dice, or cause bleeding.
  • If a live weapon is brought to the convention it must be secured immediately in your vehicle or another privately-owned space, as they are not permitted within the hotel.

Permitted Prop Weapons

  • Costume Props are Allowed: You are permitted to bring prop weapons for your costume, such as a prop sword or an Aiel spear.
    • Blade Requirements:  Unsharpened swords are considered props and are allowed. No sharp edges are permitted.
    • Projectile Weapon Requirements: Projectile weapons must be non-functioning and incapable of firing.  This includes items like bows, water guns, silly-string cans, and ping-pong pistols.
    • Prop Gun Requirements: Prop guns must have the point of the barrel colored orange for safety.
  • General Safety:  Pointy edges on any prop weapon must be covered, even if the prop cannot be fully sheathed.

Peace Bonding and Conduct

  • Peace Bonding is Required: All permitted weapons and props must be peace-bonded while on convention and hotel grounds.  For information on how peace bonding will be reviewed and enforced, please see the JordanCon Weapons Peace Binding Procedure.
  • What is Peace Bonding? Peace bonding involves Operations staff adding a tie (plastic, cloth, or nylon) to the item. This tie serves two purposes:
    • For items like knives and swords, the tie prevents the item from being drawn from its sheath or baldric.
    • The tie also clearly indicates the item has been reviewed and accepted by Safety and Operations staff.
  • Brandishing: Prop weapons may be briefly brandished for photographers, but they must be immediately sheathed afterward.
  • Vendor Purchases: Any weapon or item that may be mistaken for a weapon that you purchase from a JordanCon vendor must be immediately wrapped and transported to a hotel room or vehicle. If you wish to use or wear a purchased item during the convention, it must be reviewed by the JordanCon Safety team prior to display.
  • Charity Auction Purchases:  Any weapon or item that may be mistaken for a weapon obtained through the Charity Auction must be immediately wrapped and transported to a hotel room or vehicle. If you wish to use or wear a purchased item during the convention, it must be reviewed by the JordanCon Safety team prior to display.

The use of any weapon (actual, realistic, prop, or toy) in a threatening or harmful manner is a serious violation of the JordanCon Code of Conduct.
