We know you are all busy purchasing your JordanCon badges (before the prices go up on January 3rd) and making your hotel reservations, and so some of you may have noticed that the Marriott has a new parking fee this year. This fee does NOT apply to JordanCon members.
JordanCon, host of DeepSouthCon 54, has donated two 2016 memberships to Con or Bust, a not-for-profit organization whose mission it is to increase diversity at Science Fiction and Fantasy conventions by helping non-white individuals obtain memberships and funds to attend. Since 2009, they have raised over $54,000 through donations and auctions, allowing nearly 200 people to attend dozens of different conventions.
We are pleased to announce that JordanCon 8 has won the bid to host DeepSouthCon 54! JordanCon will also be administering the site selection for DSC 56.
In addition to JordanCon programming, the convention will feature a DeepSouthCon track, a Hearts tournament, the annual meeting of the Southern Fandom Confederation, and presentation of the Rebel & Phoenix awards for 2016.
JordanCon will enter an emergency bid to host DeepSouthCon in 2016. This follows last month’s announcement that the previously scheduled convention, “ABC DSC,” taking place in Atlanta this May, has been cancelled.
JordanCon 8 (2016) will take place at the Atlanta Marriott at Perimeter Center in Atlanta, Georgia. If you want to stay in the host hotel, the link to purchase a room in our room block is available on our Location & Travel page. The convention rate is just $95 a night plus taxes and fees.
As you may have heard, two of our volunteers, Jim and Julia Moore had their car stolen over the weekend. Leia Barrett Durham Powell has started a collection to help them out. If you would like to chip in a couple bucks, here's the link. http://www.gofundme.com/sggrn8g
We were told there was a group vandalizing vehicles in that neighborhood on the Sunday of the convention. A couple more con-goers' cars were broken into with items taken.
All Pre-registrations are closed as we organize and print reports.
The two panels that require pre-registration are locked in and live (as well as their pre-reg page)
Writer's Workshop - It's set up to allow an extra 10 submissions in case of absentees
Mask Making - We lengthened this to a "2 hour" panel ... which with the 30 minute breaks between panels means you've got about 3 hours, really.
