JordanCon's Favorite Recipes: The Gathering Storm

The Gathering Storm

Every winter we spend a few weekends creating and testing new drink recipes to share with our friends at JordanCon. Only the best recipes accompany us to Atlanta, usually only one or two. This past year, however, we had a particularly long, cold winter; as a result, we ended up with a handful of new recipes to share this year. One of the most dramatic (and requested) of those was a layered cocktail we like to call "The Gathering Storm." Take a look at the photo below and you should understand why.

JordanCon places emergency bid to host DeepSouthCon #54

JordanCon will enter an emergency bid to host DeepSouthCon in 2016. This follows last month’s announcement that the previously scheduled convention, “ABC DSC,” taking place in Atlanta this May, has been cancelled.

DeepSouthCon is a traveling science fiction fan convention that travels the southeastern United States. It has the distinction of being the oldest literary convention in the region, and sponsors the Phoenix and Rebel awards.

Room Block Released!

JordanCon 8 (2016) will take place at the Atlanta Marriott at Perimeter Center in Atlanta, Georgia. If you want to stay in the host hotel, the link to purchase a room in our room block is available on our Location & Travel page. The convention rate is just $95 a night plus taxes and fees.

Art Show Awards

Each year the JordanCon Art Show awards four awards to recognize the most outstanding works by our exhibiting artists.

The first is a Judges' Choice Award for the best work of art in that year's show, as determined by a panel consisting of our Art Show directors and the Artist Guest of Honor for that year. However, this award doesn't necessarily have to go to a single work. It can be (and has been) awarded to a group of works that work together as a thematic whole, such as Joe O'Hara's group of Wheel of Time character portraits which won the prize at JordanCon IV.

The other three awards are determined by a vote in which any JordanCon attendee can participate. These are the aptly named "People's Choice" awards. Ballots for these awards are available at the Art Show and are counted at the end of the Silent Auction. Typically, there is a category for "Best Wheel of Time Art," as well as "Best Non-Wheel-of-Time Art," and then a final category for 3D art, such as sculpture, jewelry, or other mixed media or alternative media pieces that do not easily fit into a standard picture frame. As with the Judge's Choice awards, if a group of pieces work as a whole, the entire group can be awarded a People's Choice Award in a specific category.

Why You Should Come to JordanCon

by Guest Blogger Leslie Annis

It’s that time of year again!

Okay... you got me... it’s not quite April yet, but it’s that time when we start shamelessly promoting our shiny weekend that is JordanCon, in the hopes of sharing our communal merriment with Wheel of Time friends far and wide—those we’ve met and those we hope to meet.

Seriously, yo. Come and play. It’s a sweet time, and one you won't regret. The more we get together the merrier, faster, stronger, and the partier we’ll be.
